GHS Fall Program: “Walking Tour of the Remnants of the Historic Farm of Zachariah Waters, Revolutionary War Patriot”
William Waters of Brookeville bought an original land grant from James Beall in 1755 called “Poplar Spring.” It would become one of the first farms in what would eventually turn into the town of Germantown, MD, and did not finally leave the hands of the family until 1943, almost 200 years later. Join us for a 90-minute walking tour of the final resting place of a Revolutionary War Patriot, the barely visible remains of a slave cemetery, and the site of an abandoned 20th century golf course. Discover the land feature for which this farm bears its name. Bring water, sunscreen, and good walking shoes.
Date: Saturday, November 14, 3:00 – 5:00pm (rain or shine)
Meeting Place: Picnic Area Pavilion at corner of Baltusrol Drive and Winged Foot Lane, Germantown (near the end of Century Blvd.)
Cost: Free (Donations accepted)
